Serving the Western Slope

Specialist periodontal care is hard to find west of the Divide, so patients travel to Grand Junction from across the region. Patients visit from Fruita (about 15 min), Palisade (about 20 min), Clifton (about 10 min), Delta (about 50 min), Montrose (about 1 hr 15 min), Rifle (about 1 hr) and Glenwood Springs (about 1 hr 30 min). Most treatment is completed in one or two visits, so a longer drive rarely means a long course of appointments.

Do I Need a Specialist?

When to See a Periodontist

You do not need a referral to be seen. If any of the following sounds familiar, it is worth having your gums evaluated.

Gums that bleed when you brush or floss

Healthy gums do not bleed. Bleeding is usually the first sign of an infection that has taken hold below the gumline.

Gums that are pulling away from your teeth

Receding gums expose the root surface, which can make teeth sensitive to cold and more likely to decay.

Teeth that feel loose or have shifted

Looseness or new gaps between teeth often mean the bone that supports them has been lost to periodontal disease.

Bad breath that does not go away

Persistent bad breath or a bad taste can come from bacteria living in deep pockets around the teeth.

Your dentist mentioned deep pockets or referred you to a specialist

Pocket depths of 5mm or more are difficult to clean at home and usually need specialist treatment to stabilize.

You are missing teeth and want implants

A periodontist places dental implants and rebuilds the bone and gum tissue needed to support them long term.

Working With Your Dentist

Dr. Kristen Yant works alongside your general dentist rather than replacing them. Your dentist stays informed at every stage, from the initial findings through the treatment plan and the final result, so the periodontal work fits the restorative plan you have already discussed with them.

Once your periodontal treatment is complete and stable, you return to your general dentist for routine cleanings and checkups. If you do not have a general dentist yet, the office is glad to point you toward one in the valley.
